How Our Backpacks Come Together

At every Bremerton elementary school, we work closely with a dedicated staff member who coordinates our backpack program. They provide us with a weekly count of how many backpacks are needed, not only for the designated student but also for their household siblings. We ensure each backpack is packed with enough food to cover all children in the home. This partnership with the Bremerton School District is so important. The wonderful school district employees that see the need every day direct which students and families need our backpacks.

Once we receive the backpacks from the school staff, our team begins the preparation for the upcoming distribution. Volunteers come together to wash, cut, and portion fresh fruits and vegetables, ensuring each backpack is filled with nutritious options.

On pack-out day, our volunteers assemble the backpacks with the planned meals and the fresh produce. Then, we distribute these backpacks to the eight elementary schools across Bremerton, ensuring they reach the children who need them the most.

After the weekend, the children return the backpacks to our designated staff members, and the cycle repeats, ensuring that no child goes without essential nutrition throughout the week.
